Nyika National Park

Service Description

Nyika National Park is the oldest national park of Malawi. Located on the Nyika plateau, the temperatures are low, sometimes under 0°C during the night, with a lot of wind during the dry season. The reserve is famous for its landscapes, unique in Malawi but also for its herds of zebras, elands and roan antelopes. If you are lucky, it is also possible to spot a leopard and some hyenas. January and February are the best months to discover the orchids on the plateau. More than a hundred species are growing in Nyika. And don't forget to look in the grass for butterflies, frogs, and a lot of strange mushrooms. Elephants have been transferred from Liwonde National Park to Nyika. Currently still in closed area, they should be released soon. For acomodation, we usually choose to stay in the campsite with our tents, but it is possible to have a room at the Chelinda Lodge. Details of the trip : Day 1 : Departure from the lodge around 8:00am. Lunch in Rumphi in a local restaurant Arriving around 4:30 pm and installation of the camp For diner, we purchase a lunch packet with sandwiches. Day 2 : Breakfast at 6:00 am : sandwiches with a choice of homemade jams, honey or eggs Game ride by yourself at 7:00 am for 2 to 3 hours Lunch : spaghetti and tomato sauce Self game drive in the reserve at 3:30 pm for around 2 hours Dinner : sandwiches with different sides prepared by our chef at La Rondavelle Camp fire. Day 3 : Breakfast at 6:00 am : sandwiches with a choice of homemade jams, honey or eggs Game ride by yourself at 7:00 am for around 2 to 3 hours Lunch : Beef or pork stew and rice Game drive by yourself in the reserve at 3:30 pm for 2 hours Dinner : sandwiches with different sides prepared by our chef at La Rondavelle Camp fire. Day 4 : Breakfast : sandwiches with a choice of homemade jams, honey or eggs Departure at 8:30am Lunch in Rumphi in a local restaurant Back to La Rondavelle around 6:30pm The drinks are not included.
